James Neil Brown

Nature Photograher

James Neil BrownJim grew up on the edge of a small town in the rolling hills of northeastern Ohio. As a child, Jim spent hours exploring the forest, small streams, and the rolling hills and pastures just over the hill from my home. As a result, he developed a fascination and great respect for nature. And except for five years as a college student and teacher, he has always been within walking distance to the woods that he loves.

While nature photography is seen by some as a pursuit of solitude, Jim has never felt that way. He states that with the exception of my French Bulldog Rudy, he is alone in the forest. But he says he gets “lost” in the beautiful landscapes and many creatures and birds that make their home there and he feels he is never alone.

Jim retired after a 31 year career in industry. Today he lives very close to the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. He and his wife Eve, enjoy other pursuits such as hiking, biking, and travel. However, next to spending time with their two sons and their families, photography is Jim’s true passion.

In his short time doing photography, Jim has been presented with several Best of Show awards, the most recent being that of the Cuyahoga Valley Photographic Society. Also in 2012, Jim received the Judges Award at Ohio Mart, First Place at Art in the Park in Medina, Ohio and Best of Show at St. Paul’s Art Gallery. He has also been published in magazines such as Wild Ohio and his work has appeared in calendars like the one published for the Cuyahoga Valley National Park.

“I have always been interested in photographing nature, but my career prevented me from having the time to devote to it. Now I can and I find it to be pure enjoyment.
