Deborah Cole

Oil Painter

Debbie's love of art began in childhood and her preference for oil as a medium began in the eighth grade. She deepened her love of art through study in college, receiving a degree in art history from Hollins University. Her studies required practical exploration of varied media, from printmaking to sculpture, as well as extensive study of history, religion, and multiple languages. She continued her studies in graduate school, receiving her masters and completing her doctoral coursework in art history at Case Western Reserve. While pursuing her studies, Debbie taught art history as well as doing museum work. She has traveled extensively in her exploration of art and has also taught French and English, in addition to contributing to a book on the cathedral of Chartres.

Through all the years her love of working in oils persisted and grew. β€œIt is for me a form of meditation. I can get completely lost in it and my mind is constantly drawn to a sense of wonder at the magnificence of nature and of its Creator. I often wonder if God has as much fun creating the real thing as I have interpreting it.” Debbie exhibits in area art shows and her work can be found in both private and public collections.
